Week 6: # Forefront – UI

FOREFRONT IN UI DESIGN

UI design is an essential subset of UX. Both have the same ultimate goal: to provide a positive user experience, but the user interface design is an entirely independent step of the journey. The interface is precisely what one uses to communicate with the product, and the user experience is responsible for all communication (Jiang, 2021). One has written many articles on the difference between UX and UI design to focus entirely on the interface in the future. The design of the user interface focuses on the visual experience of the user. It defines how users interact with the interface, whether it is an app, video game or website. It involves users moving from point A to point B with different visual touchpoints. Imagine pushing a button or scrolling through photos. The job of the user interface designer is to design all the screens that the user navigates through and create visual elements and their interactive functionality to facilitate that movement.

A good UI design allows one to do things quickly without disturbing themselves. Graphic design and typography are used to promote usability by influencing how users perform specific interactions and enhancing the aesthetics of the design; The aesthetics design can increase or decrease the user’s ability to use connection functions (Leitão and Jakobsen, 2018). During the design process, technical features and visuals (such as mental models) must be balanced to create a system that is not only powerful but also usable and adaptable to changing user needs. Interface design covers a wide range of projects, from computer systems to motor vehicles and commercial aircraft; all these tasks basically involve the same basic human relationships, but they also require unique skills and knowledge. Therefore, designers tend to focus on certain types of projects and mastery skills based on their experience, whether it is software design, consumer research, or web design.

The design of a user interface requires a good understanding of the user’s needs. It mainly focuses on the needs of the platform and the expectations of users. The development of a user interface involves different stages and processes, some demanding and others depending on the project (O’Rourke, n.d.). For users, the difference between an interface and a system does not make sense in most cases. In addition, most applications are used in a larger IT environment, computerised or not. Therefore, it is not recommended to separate the application interface design from the development of an information system. The difference in ideas between user interfaces and information systems, however, is useful and interesting. Multiplication of multiple connected electronics requires multiple interfaces to be developed for the same information system. The different functions of these devices lead to different interfaces, but the information system is the same. In addition, many future products could be a new interface with the current and almost unchanged system. Therefore, it is prudent to approach the information system and the user interface associated with it.
