VR PROJECT – virtual tour

Virtual reality has grown to be a revolutionary trend in museums and many museums are drifting towards it. Heritage has been at a constant threat of destruction due to climate change, looting, theft, political motives, mass tourism, and natural disasters.

Consequently, virtual reality purposes to preserve the heritage and let its stories be rediscovered through its immersive technology. It has brought culture to life in museums. Below are a few ways in which virtual reality will lead to the transformation of museums

Virtual reality has made museums more accessible to people who would not be in a position to reach them. Sometimes, visiting a museum in person can be close to impossible for some individuals. Virtual reality purposes of providing access to people by bringing the exhibition to them.

…“The incredible thing about technology is that you feel like you’re actually present in another place with other people. People who try it say it’s different from anything they’ve ever experienced in their lives.”

Mark Zuckerberg

In schools, students can visit the museum and have the whole experience without leaving their classrooms. VR has been used to create museum tours, bring these exhibitions to life and make them more accessible to the general population.

Gives A Better Understanding of Culture and Heritage.

By bringing the museum’s valuable assets to life, the audience can digest information and have a better understanding of it. Virtual reality can link the modern audience with culture. This allows for a deeper understanding of heritage and engaging experience with the content rather than just observing. VR enables you to see and internalize more than what the naked eye can see. Moreover, virtual reality is more fun and interactive.

It Creates Interest Among Art Enthusiasts.

Virtual reality sparks interest in people and gives them the urge to visit or revisit the museum. Having an idea of what you can find at the museum creates curiosity and urges them to seek more in real life and have a more enhanced experience. As more museums are embracing the potential of VR, it continues to draw a bigger audience.

It Preserves Culture and Enhances User Experience.

VR can preserve heritage by creating a virtual museum for digital visitors and making it more accessible to people before it’s too late. It also reduces the fear of theft or the destruction of monumental sculptures. By collecting a deep level of information and storing it, it can preserve its rich history. The digital generation does not have to struggle to imagine the extraordinary world that lies behind a sculpture.

Convenience and Better Accessibility to Art and Culture.

Virtual reality has made museums more accessible to people who would not be in a position to reach them. Sometimes, visiting a museum in person can be close to impossible for some individuals. With the recent pandemic of COVID-19, physical visits are not even an option. Virtual reality purposes to provide access to people by bringing the exhibition to them.

In schools, students can visit the museum and have the whole experience without leaving their classrooms. VR has been used to create museum tours, bring these exhibitions to life and make them more accessible to the general population.

Trends

There are visual trends that tend to support this idea in so many ways. The world of visual arts is growing rapidly with the need for more high-tech art. In 2018, virtual arts had a huge impact with more artists using artificial intelligence to create artworks. Some of the trends include:

  • 3D animation is becoming easier to utilize in animation with the enhancement in the production of semiconductors
  • The usability of UI is growing rapidly with more focus on interactivity and user-friendly designs
  • The rise and development of virtual reality present an opportunity to drive virtual arts despite being expensive for most individuals and companies.
  • There is a rise in the use of augmented reality is a real opportunity for designers and artists to come up with innovative ways of displaying digital arts.
  • The current problem of authenticity affecting virtual arts will eventually end with the intervention of dotART, which provides inventive ways of documenting the source of digital art.

UI is clearly the most important element of virtual arts and, therefore, such efforts must be put towards ensuring that it meets the demands of users. An appealing digital art exhibition requires proper integration of technologies such as VR and AR in developing a great user interface design.

During this week, I had my 360 degrees exported. A few of them was failed with poor quality, but other images were exported just right. I tested them with the VR Headset, but it was challenging to find a way to view them inside the VR. For one day I figure out how to set the oculus set, but after I finalised thankfully with some tutorials, I had my images inside the headset. I should mention that I did not interact in the past with a VR headset.

For me it was an interesting experience, everything looks so big around me. On the other hand, because I have movement or high altitude sick, after a few hours working with the headsets on It made me sick. Maybe in the future, It will be better.  Maybe this is the body reaction to something new until will use with the experience.
